CSRD to invest $1.8M in Shuswap-area playgrounds

SALMON ARM, B.C. — The Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD) is investing $1.8 million into three Shuswap-area playgrounds to give children and families more recreation opportunities.

The CSRD said improvements will focus on parks in Electoral Areas ‘C’ and ‘G’.

“The improvements will enhance creative and inclusive play experiences for children of all ages at Sunnybrae Community Park, Cedar Heights Community Park and Sorrento-Blind Bay Community Park. The park designs were developed based on feedback provided by residents through public surveys,” said the CSRD.

Improvements at Sunnybrae will include shade sails, a sensory multi-play panel and meadow trail, with a water mister area added in the second phase.

In Cedar Heights, the project will add a new modular pump track and modern playground features, including a swing set, explorer dome, rotating climber, zipline, double tower with cliff rider, spinner bowl, sensory play elements and other improvements.

Work at Sorrento-Blind Bay will add a new shade sail, swing set, climber, double tower with cliff rider, spinner bowl, sensory multi-play panel, rattle roller wheel and stepping pods.

The new improvements are expected to be ready for children to enjoy in time for next spring.

“The CSRD board approved the playground projects and related financial plan amendments at its August 20 meeting. Equipment will be ordered immediately and depending on weather conditions, will be installed this winter or in early spring 2027,” said the CSRD.
