KAMLOOPS — Steve Bucher has announced his bid for Kamloops council in this October’s municipal election.

Bucher is a local businessman who has had ties to Kamloops his entire life. He says his campaign values problem-solving, connecting, and building a safe and thriving Kamloops. One of his main goals is to bring a much more positive light to the city’s reputation.

“It’s been on my heart and I’m one person on a team, and I’m really good at being a team member. I coach in the community, and so I’m really looking forward to the chance to bring some influence and some positivity to that environment,” said Bucher. “I don’t want anyone to hear any more about how the city of Kamloops is dysfunctional or we’re having a lawsuit. We need to be done with that, and we need to move forward, and I think I can bring that.”

Other key issues he hopes to solve if he’s elected come October include community safety, smart financial growth and the city relaying important information with residents.

“Communication is a big part of that. What aren’t people seeing? What do they need to see more of? The city is communicating things, but people don’t believe it anymore. When was the last time people believed it and said, ‘Hey neighbor, look at this good news; I believe it,'” he added. “They’re so suspicious. So again, the communication gap needs to be closed. We need to provide better data to the citizens.”
