SUV crosses centre line, causes fatal crash on Highway 1 east of Sicamous: RCMP

SICAMOUS, B.C. — One person is dead following a fatal crash on the Trans-Canada Highway east of Sicamous.

Just after 6:00 a.m. Tuesday (Sept. 1), Sicamous RCMP say officers responded to the stretch of Highway 1 near Arnold Frontage Road where it was determined that a westbound SUV crossed the centre line of the undivided two-lane section of the roadway and collided with an eastbound sedan.

In a news release issued Tuesday, RCMP say the driver and lone occupant of the sedan was pronounced dead at the scene while the driver and lone occupant of the SUV was sent to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say road conditions were excellent at the time of the crash, with no rainfall or issues with visibility, and alcohol has been ruled out as a factor.

An RCMP collision analyst attended the scene. The stretch of Highway 1 was closed for nearly eight-and-a-half hours for the scene to be investigated.

DriveBC reported the highway reopened at around 3:10 p.m. Tuesday.
