Concern changes as Kamloops Fire Centre wildfires calm
KAMLOOPS — Cooler temperatures, longer nights and precipitation have all played important roles in allowing the BC Wildfire Service to get the upper hand on several fires burning across the Kamloops Fire Centre in recent weeks. That stability, in turn, has allowed the Thompson Nicola Regional District (TNRD) to downgrade a number of evacuation orders to alerts – and alerts to all-clear.
“We need rain so bad but we don’t feel comfortable when we see a big rain in the forecast because of that risk,” said TNRD EOC Communications Director Colton Davies.
Downgraded orders and alerts have become common in recent weeks, as people have been allowed to return home. But while the threat from fire may have passed, concern remains.
