KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops branch of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is mourning the loss of the foundation’s namesake after her death at 80 years old.

“The local Kamloops partners of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library are heartbroken at the loss of the legendary Dolly Parton. Her profound legacy and impact is felt worldwide, in communities across Canada and right here in Kamloops,” said the Imagination Library.

The non-profit organization sends a monthly book to registered children under five, and has gifted 4,493 books to children in Kamloops since 2023.

This month, the local branch will send books to 147 local children through the mail because of the foundation Parton started 31 years ago.

“Our team, our local program partners, and every operational partner who helps make this program possible each month are heartbroken at the loss of our founder, Dolly Parton. She was always proud that her little program grew into what it is today. She was proudest of what it meant to her dad. In her own words: ‘my daddy told me the Imagination Library was probably the most important thing I had ever done,’ ” said Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library will continue their work after her passing.

“The world grieves with us today. And yet we find ourselves just as certain about what comes next. For decades, Dolly and the team at The Dollywood Foundation — home of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library — worked to build something that would last for generations. So it will. The work ahead has never felt more meaningful, and we will carry it forward as she lifts us all up,” said the Imagination Library

“Dolly, we will always love you.”

The Imagination Library of Kamloops Association is a volunteer-run non-profit supported by local donors. Those who want to donate to the local program can contact ilkamloops@gmail.com or donate online at imaginationlibrary.com/ca/.
