Severe thunderstorm watch in effect for Shuswap area

SALMON ARM, B.C. — Environment Canada has placed a severe thunderstorm watch for the Shuswap region on Thursday afternoon (Aug. 27).

The forecaster warns that conditions are favorable for the development of a storm that could produce strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.

The alert encompasses the Shuswap area, Revelstoke, and out to the B.C./Alberta border north of Golden and south of Valemount.

“When thunder roars, go indoors! Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year,” said Environment Canada officials.
