Tim Curry, Iconic Star Of ‘Rocky Horror, ‘It’, And ‘Clue’ Dead At 80

Tim Curry, the eccentric British actor who captivated audiences as Dr. Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Pennywise in the TV miniseries of Stephen King’s It, died Wednesday at his home in Los Angeles. He was 80. Curry had suffered a major stroke in 2012, after which he learned to speak again while continuing to do voice work. His career spanned decades, earning three Tony nominations, a Daytime Emmy for Peter Pan And The Pirates, and an Emmy nomination for Tales From The Crypt. Curry also had memorable roles in the comedy classic Clue, Ridley Scott’s Legend, and Muppet Treasure Island. He originated Rocky Horror’s iconic role in London’s Royal Court Theatre before the 1975 film became a global cult classic. “I’ve had very interesting and moving mail from people who said, ‘Thanks for helping me figure out who I was,’” Curry said in 2005. He never married and had no children.
