EARLIER: CLINTON, B.C. — An evacuation alert has been lifted for more than 1,000 residents who were impacted by the massive Pear Lake wildfire near the Village of Clinton, while a handful of others are now able to return home. 

At 3:00 p.m. Sunday (Aug. 23), the Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD) gave the “all clear” status to nearly 1,243 addressed properties within the Loon Lake, 70 Mile House and South Green Lake areas, along with those near Highway 97 and south of Highway 99. 

Additionally, the TNRD downgraded an evacuation order for 20 addressed properties near Kelly Lake, north of Canoe Creek and along Highway 99 and Hooke Road to an evacuation alert. 

Residents in the following properties may return home: 

• 1132 to 1260 Hooke Rd. 

• 880 to 1402 Isadore Rd. 

• 1468 and 2628 Hwy 99 

• 6421 Jesmond Rd. 

• 1833 to 2012 Pavilion-Clinton Rd. 

• any other areas as outlined on the attached map

The TNRD says approximately 282 addressed properties within Electoral Area “E” (Bonaparte Plateau) remain on evacuation alert due to the Pear Lake wildfire, while nearly 61 addressed properties within Electoral Areas “E” and “I” (Blue Sky Country) remain on evacuation order. 

Residents in the following properties are not allowed to return yet: 

• 5930 to 8065 Big Bar Rd. 

• 5445 High Bar Rd. 

• 5521 and 5665 Hwy 97 

• 6656 to 10843 Jesmond Rd. 

• 7620 to 7628 Meadow Lake Rd. 

• any other properties as outlined on the attached map

For residents who remain under an evacuation alert, the TNRD says they will be given as much advance notice as possible prior to an evacuation order, although they may receive limited notice due to changing conditions. 

The TNRD also has two information packages available for returning residents: one on returning home after a wildfire and another on wildfire waste disposal. 

The downgrades issued by the TNRD come after the Cariboo Regional District gave the “all clear” status for its final evacuation alert areas in response to the Pear Lake wildfire. 

As of Sunday evening, the BC Wildfire Service says the Pear Lake wildfire is measured at around 164,744.95 hectares in size. 

“We’re working closely with our utility, local government, and transportation partners to restore services and keep worksites safe for all crews,” the wildfire service states. “This includes working directly with BC Hydro to support the ongoing restoration of damaged infrastructure. Rockfall and downed trees along the roadways remain a safety hazard, and we continue to coordinate with our partners to ensure safe access.” 

Following various amounts of precipitation from Saturday night to Sunday morning, the wildfire service says the Pear Lake wildfire site will experience another drying, warming trend. 

The wildfire service says 476 firefighters and 89 structure protection personnel are responding to the Pear Lake wildfire. They’re being accompanied by 120 pieces of heavy equipment, 21 helicopters and an incident management team.
