Amid summer heat, Kamloops building sector continues to cool off in July

KAMLOOPS — A slow summer has put the Kamloops building sector behind its pace for 2025. 

New numbers released by the City of Kamloops Building Inspection Division show $19 million in activity was recorded over 93 permits for July 2026, nearly one-quarter the $80 million recorded over 91 permits from the same month last year. Three multi-family – three or more units – permits worth $14.8 million carried the Kamloops building sector in July. 

Year-to-date, nearly $207 million in activity has been recorded over 573 permits in Kamloops. For the first time in 2026, the building sector is behind the pace set in 2025. Nearly $212 million was recorded over 606 permits as of July 2025. 

However, the residential side of the construction business in Kamloops picked back up again. Permits for 80 new housing units were issued in July 2026. However, it’s down from 128 during the same month in 2025.
