Kamloops businesses, exporters brace for ripple effects as 50 per cent U.S. tariffs loom
KAMLOOPS, B.C. — A new round of 50 per cent U.S. tariffs is set to take effect Tuesday (Aug. 18), creating further uncertainty for Kamloops businesses tied to the American market.
Progressive Planet Products processes locally mined materials at its Kamloops facility into products sold in the agricultural, pet care and industrial sectors. Over the years, many more of those products are being shipped towards high-demand customers … a growing trend for the company, particularly in the United States.
Kyle Dickson, vice-president of finance for Progressive Planet, said the company’s products have remained protected thus far under the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA).
