Six arrested after firearm report prompts heavy police response in Kamloops’ Edgemount Avenue

KAMLOOPS, B.C. — Six people were arrested after a report of a man with a firearm prompted a heavy police response in a Kamloops neighbourhood Saturday evening (Aug. 15).

Kamloops RCMP say frontline officers were called to the 2000-block of Edgemount Avenue shortly after 9 P.M. Police were told a man had a firearm during an altercation with another man.

“Officers flooded the area and surrounded the residence,” Staff Sgt. Janelle Shoihet said. “We understand it is concerning to see many officers in a residential neighbourhood; however, public safety is paramount and a cautious response necessary to resolve the matter safely.”

Six people were arrested and later released without charges as the investigation continues.
