Salmon Arm roundabout construction to disrupt traffic

SALMON ARM, B.C. — Construction on Salmon Arm’s first roundabout is progressing, with work to impact traffic flow over the coming days.

The City of Salmon Arm said the work is progressing smoothly, but there is still more to come.

“Underground infrastructure improvements are complete; road gravels have been placed and compacted, and the concrete island and apron have been poured. Installation and compaction of gravel for the sidewalks is now underway,” said the City in a social media statement.

Drivers are urged to be ware of changes to traffic patters with paving work going on from Wednesday to Saturday (Aug 19 to 22).

“During paving, certain turning movements at the intersection will be restricted, and local detours will be in effect. Please follow the posted signage and the direction of traffic controllers onsite,” said the City.

“The intersection remains an active construction zone, with delineation and roundabout signage in place to guide vehicles through the area.”

Once paving is complete, crews will move into the final phases of the project with sidewalk and streetlight installation.

The circular concrete work is complete, making the intersection into a functional roundabout.

“Motorists are required to follow the rules of the road for roundabout operations, including stopping for pedestrians and yielding to traffic already in the roundabout,” said the City.

Operations at nearby businesses have not been impacted by the construction and they remain open.

Construction on the roundabout began on May 4, and is expected to continue until mid-September.

“When complete, the roundabout will provide efficient vehicle flow through the intersection while improving safety for both traffic and pedestrians,” said City officials.

“Thank you for your continued cooperation and patience while this important project is underway.”
