Kamloops Blazers’ athletic therapist Cochrane claims gold with Canada

Cochrane was expecting to get her first taste of international action this summer, but with the Team Canada women.

Hockey Canada plans changed and she got the call for the male under-18 tournament that featured some of the top players in the world in that age group.

“The moment that stands out the most for me is standing on the blueline singing O Canada with the gold medal around our necks,” she said.

Cochrane is from Elk Point, Alta, about 220 kilometres east of Edmonton, so she was able to share the golden moment with family after the final at Rogers Place.

“Oh, my gosh,” she said. “It was great. Both my parents were able to make it to the gold-medal game, so they got to watch me have that medal placed upon my neck.”

Cochrane said earning more national team experience is among her goals for the future.

“As for climbing the ladder, I’m going to go as far as I can,” she said. “It’s definitely a dream, but not the main dream. Eventually, I’ll settle down and open some fancy sports performance clinic, but I’m going to ride this opportunity out as long as I can.”
