RCMP looking for witness of Coquihalla crash south of Merritt

MERRITT, B.C. — BC Highway Patrol are looking for a particular witness to a crash along the Coquihalla highway south of Merritt who left the scene before giving evidence to officers.

Police officials said the crash happened on July 30, 2026, at about 2:15 p.m. along the Coquihalla northbound near Exit 286, just south of Merritt.

When officers arrived, they found a white GMC Sierra pickup that drove off the road and flipped onto its side. No other vehicles were involved, but the driver suffered serious injuries.

“Witnesses told police that a man driving a tractor-trailer had initially stopped and said he had dash-camera footage of the collision,” says Sergeant Michael McLaughlin with BC Highway Patrol.
