Helicopter pilot suffers minor injuries after Tuesday morning crash near 70 Mile House

70 MILE HOUSE, B.C. — (UPDATE 2:40 p.m.): A helicopter pilot was taken to hospital with minor injuries after a crash near 70 Mile House Tuesday (Aug. 4) morning.
The BC Wildfire Service confirmed to CFJC Today that the incident happened around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, and that it involved a contractor.
“A helicopter went down over a lake, landing in the water near 70 Mile House during wildfire operations in the Big Bar wildfire complex,” Aydan Coray, a fire information officer with the BC Wildfire Service said, in an emailed statement.
The Big Bar complex includes the 1,247-square kilometre (124,656 hectare) Pear Lake fire, burning near the communities of Clinton, Chasm and 70 Mile House. It also includes the 384 square kilometre (38,396 hectare) French Bar Creek fire to the west and the 46 square kilometre (4,649 hectare) Rim Lake fire to the east.
