TNRD expands Evacuation Order for French Bar Creek fire

“If you are in the described area, you must leave immediately. A person must not enter the Evacuation Order area for purposes of residing, occupying, or visiting the area,” said the TNRD.

The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) said fire has grown to 37,106.1 hectares (about 371 square kilometres) since it was first discovered on July 4.

On Saturday, the BCWS said the fire jumped across the Fraser River on Saturday (August 1).

“Today, Aug 2, crews will be actioning this portion of the fire, going direct to extinguish the fires edge for containment. We will continue to monitor the fires progression and deploy structure protection to protect values,” said the BCWS.

The BCWS said cooler temperatures, lighter winds and higher humidity decreased fire behaviour on Sunday (August 2), however, with more hot and dry weather in the forecast, the reprieve is likely to be short.

“The fuels remain heavily impacted by drought throughout the area and are highly susceptible to ignition and increased fire behaviour if sunny conditions prevail and winds increase due to local topography,” said the BCWS.

The fire is also burning in an area that is posing a challenge to firefighters.

“The terrain, availability of water and access to the fire are posing challenges for responders. Due to these challenges and higher priority incidents within the complex, firefighting resources will be assigned when there are achievable objectives,” said the BCWS.
