Kamloops Interior Dragon Boat Society christens new boat ahead of festival
KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops Interior Dragon Boat Society (KIDS) celebrated the purchase of a new boat ahead of the Kamloops Dragon Boat Festival on August 8, 2026.
KIDS christened the Millennium Dragon Boat, ‘Spirit of the Thompson Rivers’ on July 14 at Pioneer Park boat launch with Bob Smillie and Christine Cross from Kamloops Sports Legacy Fund as special guests.
The new Canadian-made 20+ person fiberglass dragon boat cost the Society $37,000 was made by OCEANUS Reinforced Plastics and supplied by Fairway Gorge Paddling Club in Victoria.
“It is known for its stability, durability, and strong safety performance, making it well-suited for paddling on the Thompson Rivers,” said KIDS.
