Tk’emlúps urging residents to conserve water amid infrastructure failure

KAMLOOPS — Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc is urging residents to conserve water after the East Shuswap Reservoir’s treatment plant pump broke down.

The backup pump is still operational to maintain water supply, but Tk̓emlúps officials are still asking residents to cut down on water use where they can.

“We are asking all residents served by the East Shuswap Reservoir to conserve water until further notice. Simple actions such as limiting outdoor watering, shortening showers, and postponing non-essential water use will help reduce demand while repairs are underway,” Tk̓emlúps states in a social media post on Friday (July 31).

Work is underway to restore the system to full operation.
