Violation ticket text message is a scam: Kamloops RCMP

KAMLOOPS — If you receive a text message purporting to be from an RCMP officer pressuring you to pay a ticket, it’s a scam.

That’s the word from Kamloops RCMP, who say the detachment has received no fewer than nine reports of that very situation in the past two days.

The text sender appears to inform the receiver of a traffic violation, using the name of a police officer. However, that name is fictional and the named police officer does not exist.

A link is included in the message soliciting credit card information to pay the fictional ticket.
