RCMP investigating destruction of 100 Mile Pride Society sign

100 MILE HOUSE, B.C. — RCMP in 100 Mile House are investigating the intentional destruction of a sign promoting a local pride group.


According to the 100 Mile Pride Society, the sign was posted at the north entrance to the community.

“The sign was spray painted, ripped from its large wooden sign structure and cut into multiple pieces,” said the organization in a post to social media. “Someone also took the time to carve hateful slurs into it.”

The sign’s destruction is the latest blow for 100 Mile Pride. The impact of nearby wildfires forced the cancellation of Pride in the Park, a festival planned for the community’s Centennial Park last Saturday (July 25).

“This is a deliberate act of hate directed at our 2SLGBTQIA+ community, and it is deeply upsetting to see this happen in our community.”

100 Mile House RCMP have opened an investigation into the incident. Anyone with information is asked to call the detachment at (250) 395-2456 and refer to file number 2026-2603.

Anyone wishing to help the organization replace the sign is invited to contribute to an online fundraiser.
