Jesmond, Chasm on evacuation order; 70 Mile House on alert due to ‘aggressive’ Fiftynine Creek fire

“People in areas being newly evacuated on Jesmond Road and Big Bar Road should travel east on Meadow Lake Road to Highway 97. From Highway 97 at Meadow Lake Road, evacuees can travel north on Highway 97, then head east on Highway 24 towards Kamloops,” the TNRD’s order said.

Expanded evacuation alerts are also in place approximately 171 addressed properties, including the community of 70 Mile House. There are 66 properties newly added to an evacuation alert as follows:

1556 to 1576 70 Mile Frontage Rd;
1512 to 1528 Cariboo Wagon Rd;
1537 to 1912 Chasm Rd;
2272 to 2288 Cunningham Rd;
1160 to 1848 Hwy 97;
2693 to 2740 Komori Rd;
2396 to 2420 Maple Rd;
2424 to 3069 North Bonaparte Rd;
2396 to 2449 Pine Rd;
1677 to 1760 Poplar Rd;
1552 and 1565 Raphael-Meason Rd;
2504 River Lakes FSR;
2396 to 2429 Spruce Rd;
2396 to 2481 Willow Dr; and
Any other properties as outlined on this map.

The BC Wildfire Service said crews are having to deal with hot and dry conditions as well as challenging terrain.

“Winds pushing from the west and north west pushed fire past containment efforts on the southwest flank,” the BC Wildfire Service said. “Aggressive fire behaviour reported as rank 5 which is described as an organized flame front with independent spot fire growth. Crews have been pulled back to safe areas and will assess for opportunities to reengage.”

These evacuation orders and alerts are separate from the ones linked to the Pear Lake fire which has forced people in the entire community of Clinton to flee.
