Orange-level air quality advisory issued for Kamloops area

KAMLOOPS — An orange level air quality warning has been reissued for the Kamloops area, as the region remains inundated with wildfire smoke.

The warning covers the South Thompson area as well as the Fraser Canyon, and the affected areas are expected to be impacted by smoke for the next 24 to 48 hours.

An orange-level warning for the Merritt area has been downgraded to a yellow-warning. Yellow warnings are also in place for the North Thompson, the Shuswap, the Williams Lake and 100 Mile areas, and the North Okanagan.

“Smoke is causing or expected to cause poor air quality and reduced visibility,” a statement from Environment Canada said.
