Body of missing Alberta man recovered 2 years after disappearance near Tournament Capital Ranch

KAMLOOPS — Kamloops RCMP say the remains of missing Red Deer man have been found, a little more than two years after he went missing near the Tournament Capital Ranch.

Police say Stan Cappis and a friend jumped into the North Thompson River just after 3:00 p.m. on July 12, 2024 to rescue two young people who stepped off the sandbar and were starting to get carried down river. RCMP note everybody except Cappis was able to return to shore, but the Alberta man was swept away and was last seen rounding the bend of the river.

“On July 16, 2026, remains found were positively identified as the human remains belonging to Stan Cappis,” Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Dana Napier said. “In consultation with family members we are releasing his name to the public given the high level of engagement from the community in their continued efforts to look for Stan.”
