It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Sylvia Lucille (DelPieve) Gobbi on July 17, 2026, following three courageous battles with cancer. She was 84 years old.

Sylvia was born on March 22, 1942, in Prince George, British Columbia, to Willis and Dorothy Gobbi. She spent her formative years growing up in Giscome, British Columbia, where her love of sports first took root. As a young girl, she enthusiastically played both soccer and softball, laying the foundation for a lifetime of athletic competition and an appreciation for staying active. She was predeceased by her parents and by her beloved sisters, Elli and Sharon. She leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish her memory: her sons, Scott (Tammy) Simpson, Gordon Simpson, and Darin Stussi; her grandchildren, Gavin, Jeyden, Blaike, Levi-Guy, and Lily, who brought her immense pride and joy; and her siblings, Priscilla Fortier, Phil (Charlene) Gobbi, and Norm (Lorraine) Gobbi. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom will miss her dearly and treasure the many memories they shared with her.

Sylvia will be remembered as a fiercely independent woman with an unwavering determination and a competitive spirit that inspired those around her. She approached every challenge with resilience, strength, and an unmistakable sense of purpose. Even through three separate battles with cancer, she demonstrated remarkable courage and perseverance. An avid athlete throughout her life, Sylvia found great happiness in staying active. Whether she was on the tennis court, competing in pickleball, or enjoying a round of golf, she embraced every opportunity to challenge herself and connect with others. Her dedication and talent earned her multiple medals at the Senior Games in both tennis and pickleball—accomplishments of which she was quietly proud.

While Sylvia loved competition and staying active, some of her happiest moments were spent with her family. One of her greatest joys was the annual tradition of making gingerbread houses at Christmas with her grandchildren Gavin, Jeyden, and Blaike. These treasured times together were filled with laughter, creativity, and memories that will be cherished for years to come.

More than her athletic achievements, Sylvia will be remembered for her determination, her strength of character, and the deep love she had for her family. Her resilience, independence, and zest for life leave a lasting legacy that will continue to inspire those who knew and loved her.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the many doctors, nurses, and healthcare professionals who provided compassionate care and support throughout Sylvia’s cancer journey. A special and sincere thank you goes to Dr. Swart, her family physician, whose exceptional care, kindness, and unwavering support over the years meant so much to Sylvia and her family. Though she will be deeply missed, Sylvia’s spirit will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and everyone fortunate enough to have shared in her life.

A celebration of Sylvia’s life will be held on Saturday, August 15 at the Delta Hotel in the Mountview Terrace room.
