It is with deep sadness we share the passing of Norma Lee Butler on July 13, 2026 in Kamloops, B.C. Norma was born in Rossland, B.C. on May 25, 1948 where she spent her early years. Norma is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband, Doug of 51 years; sons, Scott and Mark; granddaughter, Camryn; brother-in-law, Rob (Sharon) Butler, sister-in-law, Sherri (Walt) Lazaruk; sister, Joan Staudinger; brother-in-law, Jeff Whitlock.

Norma and Doug moved to Kamloops in 1970. They had a house built in Barnhartvale in 1973 which they designed. In 1975 they moved to Brocklehurst where they were well appreciated members of the community. In 2016 Norma and Doug moved to Sun Rivers.

Norma taught in elementary classrooms and library for 33 years. She was a dedicated and creative educator who engaged with students, encouraging them to be life long learners. Norma had a love of exploration and travel. Norma particularly appreciated experiencing the people and cultures of other countries. Her favorite places were visiting Bhutan, Peru and Africa. Norma also enjoyed years of camping trips with family and friends. Since her retirement Norma was an active contributing member of the Thompson Rivers Probus Club and especially enjoyed the Walk & Coffee activities. She also treasured her time with the weekly breakfast group.

Norma fostered many long-time friendships. She is fondly remembered for her thoughtfulness, generosity and kindness.

A gathering to celebrate Norma’s life will be held at a later date. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Norma may choose to consider the Salvation Army, Canadian Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation or charity of choice.
