Hundreds of Kamloops homeowners missed Home Owner Grant application deadline: city
KAMLOOPS — The City of Kamloops says about 2,000 property owners in Kamloops did not properly inform the province about their eligibility for the Home Owner Grant by the July 2 deadline.
In a post to social media, the city says that total either missed the deadline or filed their applications incorrectly.
The unusually large number prompted the city to contact the province to ensure there was no problem with the online application page or software.
“The portion of the property tax assessment covered by the Home Owner Grant is considered a portion of the total property tax amount,” said the city. “When the Home Owner Grant is not applied for on or before July 2, the property tax bill is not paid in full, and the outstanding balance is subject to the legislated and non-reversible 10 per cent penalty.”
