Busy 2026 for Kamloops building sector hits first lull in June

KAMLOOPS — A lull in June has taken the Kamloops building sector off its recording-setting pace through 2026.

New numbers released by the City of Kamloops Building Inspection Division show $8.1 million in activity was recorded over 92 permits for June 2026 – around one-sixth the $52.4 million recorded over 102 permits from the same month last year.

While no longer on a record-setting pace, 2026 is the third-busiest first half of a calendar year for the Kamloops building sector over the last decade. Year-to-date, nearly $187.9 million in activity has been recorded over 480 permits. The six-month total in 2026 only trails the $199.7 million recorded in 2020 and the $190.2 million recorded in 2024.

The residential side of the construction business in Kamloops also slowed in June. Permits for 11 new housing were issued in June 2026, well down from 129 during the same month in 2025.
