KAMLOOPS — Kamloops RCMP are investigating the brief and very visible structure fire that broke out near McDonald Park on the North Shore on Monday (July 13).

Kamloops Fire Rescue made quick work of the blaze that was in a recreational vehicle and a shed near Alexander Avenue and Ross Street. This morning, Kamloops RCMP said they’re also investigating the incident.

“What we’ve learned at this point is that the shed was used to contain fuel, to store fuel,” Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Dana Napier told CFJC Today. “We do have an investigator that has been on scene and the investigation at this time is ongoing.”

A large column of black smoke was visible across much of the city around 8:45 a.m. Monday morning, but firefighters were able to get a handle on things around 9:00 a.m. No injuries were reported.

“We haven’t made a determination yet as to the cause of the fire, so at this time, I’m not able to speak to the specifics around whether or not it is suspicious,” Napier added.

“We are hoping to ask the public for any information that they might about this fire, specifically any dash cam footage or video surveillance the might have of the alley near the 400-block of Alexander Avenue leading up to the fire and a little but after the fire as well.”

People with that information are asked to call the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) and cite file 2026-22673.
