Kamloops City Council to discuss plan for hospital housing

KAMLOOPS — Kamloops city council will discuss a plan to rezone a property to allow for temporary housing visiting physicians patients and their caregivers receiving treatment at Royal Inland Hospital.

In a report to be presented to City Council on Tuesday, the proposed rezoning is intended to be a companion to the Kamloops Cancer Center, which is currently under construction.

“The property’s current owner, the Royal Inland Hospital Foundation, intends to use the property as a short- or long-term rental for two specific groups: out-of-town patients and their family members, and medical learners doing clinical rotations or visiting health care professionals doing locum work,” reads the report.

The property, formerly owned by RareBirds Housing Co-operative, has six bedrooms, each with a private den, and ensuite. It also has three guest bedrooms were downstairs, which was designed so it could easily be split off as a separate secondary suite. The building also contains a central shared kitchen for all of the units.
