Kamloops RCMP use bait vehicle to bust car jackers

KAMLOOPS — Kamloops RCMP arrested two men following the alleged theft of a police bait vehicle.

Police officials said on June 24, just after 4:30 p.m. Kamloops RCMP Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) officers responded to a bait car activation.

Police launched a coordinated response to safely stop the vehicle and arrested the two men inside.

“The Kamloops RCMP Detachment Crime Reduction Unit continue to utilize targeted enforcement strategies to identify and arrest individuals who pose ongoing risk to public safety,” said Superintendent Jeff Pelley, Officer in Charge of the Kamloops RCMP Detachment. 

“The deployment of bait vehicles is an effective tool in reducing property crime and holding repeat offenders accountable.  The swift and safe arrest of these individuals reflects the professionalism and coordinated efforts of our officers.”

Both men were held in custody and brought before a court on several charges including theft of a motor vehicle and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
