Shane Paul Ruddell passed away in Kamloops, British Columbia, on June 10, 2026, at the age of 64.
Born on May 21, 1962, Shane was the son of Polly McCreadie and Paul Prokopetz. He spent his life living in numerous small communities throughout British Columbia’s Thompson Valley and Cariboo regions, developing a lifelong appreciation for the outdoors. Over the years, Shane worked as both a logger and a meat cutter. Outside of work, he found his greatest joy in fishing, spending time with family, and caring for the dogs who shared his life—each affectionately named Shelby. A devoted animal lover, Shane was especially fond of eagles, a passion reflected in the eagle tattoos he proudly wore.
Among Shane’s greatest joys was spending time with his nieces and nephews, for whom he transformed childhood into an endless adventure. He believed rules were often more like suggestions and delighted in recruiting his nieces and nephews for whatever harmless trouble he could dream up next. If there was an opportunity to stir the pot, Shane rarely let it pass by, leaving each of them with stories they’ll be telling for the rest of their lives. He had a standing tradition of privately assuring each niece and nephew that they were his favourite—a secret every one of them believed was theirs alone.
Known among family and friends as the “cat with nine lives,” Shane survived more than his share of accidents over the years, earning a reputation for remarkable resilience. Above all, he will be remembered for the deep bond he shared with his beloved dog, Shelby, whose companionship meant the world to him.
Shane is lovingly remembered by his daughter, Ashley Power, his sisters Victoria Bailey and Mona Welch, and brothers, Garrett Ruddell and David Ruddell. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. Forever unforgettable, cultivating kindness in nearly every heart, boldly unapologetic, beloved by all.
