KAMLOOPS — Project X Theatre is bringing Theatre Under the Trees back to Prince Charles Park this month.

The 22nd season will officially get underway next Thursday (July 9), the first of two opening nights as this year’s festival will alternate between two shows – Robin Hood and The Paper Bag Princess. You can also get a early glimpse of the productions starting on Monday (July 6) with preview performances.

“We really just strive to have a lot of fun. it’s full of love and heart and revolution and plenty of goofiness,” said Robin Hood Director Randi Edmundson, of the tale as old as time, being told under the trees.

“It is a delightful journey of a young women coming to find herself, and decide what is important to her and how her story ends and what matters to her,” added The Paper Bag Princess Director Amy Baskin.

Mother Nature not credited in either production, but sure to make an impact.

“What I love about this space and the outdoor theatre is that the barrier between the audience and the artists is really porous, you know a regular theatre has that sort of barrier of the lights and the stage but we don’t have that, it spills out into the community and I really think that’s really magical,” said Edmundson.

The two shows will alternate until July 25, and both are appropriate for younger audiences.

“If you have some little people that haven’t had a lot of experience watching theatre, this is a great show, it’s very welcoming, there is space for them to kind of find themselves and feel comfortable and we are very very happy to welcome people to the park,” added Baskin.

“We also have pay what you choose matinees on the Saturday’s during our run and we go for three weeks, so don’t miss it, it’s amazing how fast it goes,” said Edmundson.
