KAMLOOPS — Kamloops Search and Rescue (KSAR) helped pull a woman to safety after she found herself stranded on steep terrain near the Tranquille Slot Canyons early Thursday (July 2) morning.

KSAR said it was tasked by the RCMP around 1:00 a.m. to help rescue the woman, but it was told to wait until police could get eyes on the woman. KSAR added nine of its members were eventually paged at 2:00 a.m.

“RCMP determined the subject was stranded on steep terrain and appeared to be below a cliff, making a technical rope rescue necessary,” KSAR said in a statement. “She was cold, hungry, suffering from muscle cramps, without shoes, and unable to climb out on her own.”

KSAR said once a safe access route was found, two of its members went down to where the woman was located, and gave her food, water, a pair of boots and helped her warm up.

“Once she had recovered enough, [we] assisted her up to a handline established by our Rope Rescue Team, allowing her to reach a safer location on the slope,” added KSAR, noting the woman was then lifted out in a stretcher and taken into the care of BC Emergency Health Services around 6:00 a.m.

“This rescue highlights the value of specialized rope rescue training and the dedication of our professional volunteers, who respond at any hour, in any conditions, to help those in need,” added KSAR.

“A big thank you to our partners at the RCMP and BC Emergency Health Services for another successful joint operation.”

The woman who was rescued later reached out to CFJC Today to report that she has recovered.
