Teenager ticketed, has uninsured dirt bike impounded after stunting in front of Salmon Arm RCMP
SALMON ARM, B.C. — A Shuswap teenager riding an uninsured dirt bike without a helmet wasn’t able to evade police a second time.
At around 8:00 p.m. on June 20, Salmon Arm RCMP say officers responded to a large gathering of more than 50 diesel trucks near 13th Avenue SW and 30th Street SW. Police say that’s when the dirt bike rider, a 16-year-old boy, was seen performing burnouts and long wheelies in front of a crowd.
When asked to speak with officers about his actions and potential consequences, police say the rider yelled, “why,” before riding away. Nearly five minutes later, RCMP say the same rider, still without a helmet, was seen performing a wheelie while driving past officers. The boy was arrested after reportedly refusing to get off the bike and attempting to flee from police.
“While we prefer to take an educational approach with e-dirt bikes and other forms of micro-mobility; when someone chooses to ignore police requests and warnings, they are more likely to face fines and other penalties,” Cst. Andrew Hodges states in a news release issued Monday (June 29).
