KAMLOOPS — Police in Kamloops are asking for help in identifying a person of interest in relation to a suspicious house fire from earlier this month.

RCMP say officers were called to the 2400-block of Young Avenue in Brocklehurst just before 2:00 a.m. on Friday, June 19. The fire was extinguished by Kamloops Fire Rescue, and while no cause was provided, police say they have reason to believe the fire was intentionally set.

Tuesday (June 30) afternoon, RCMP released a grainy picture of a person of interest who was seen on the property just minutes before the fire sparked. This person was last seen walking near the intersection of Young Avenue and Windbreak Street around 2:25 a.m. on June 19.

“We believe the individual captured in this image may have information that is important to our investigation,” Kamloops RCMP S/Sgt. Andy Lot said.

“We are asking this person, or anyone who recognizes them, to contact investigators. We are also asking residents and motorists in the area to review any CCTV or dash camera footage they may have from the early morning hours of June 19, as even seemingly minor details could prove valuable.”

Lot says investigators are “particularly interested” in hearing from people who have CCTV or dash camera footage from the area of Young Avenue, Windbreak Street, and the surrounding neighbourhood between 1:00 a.m. and 3:30 a.m. on June 19.

Police are particularly interested in CCTV or dashcam footage from the area of Young Avenue, Windbreak Street and the surrounding neighbourhood between 1 a.m. and 3:30 a.m. on June 19.

People with that information are asked to call Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2026-19681.
