Severe thunderstorm watch in effect for South Thompson, Fraser Canyon

KAMLOOPS — A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for the South Thompson region and the northern portion of the Fraser Canyon, including Lillooet. 

In a statement Monday (June 29) morning, Environment Canada says conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing heavy rain near Ashcroft, Cache Creek and Kamloops. 

“Heavy rain can cause flash flooding and significant reductions to visibility. Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms capable of producing damaging hail, wind or rain,” Environment Canada states. 

Residents are encouraged to go indoors when they hear the sound of thunder.
