Donald Richard Haws

Posted Jun 25, 2026 | 9:50 AM

January 29, 1948 – June 1, 2026

It is with sadness, but also with many fond memories and smiles, that we announce the passing of Donald Richard Haws, known to family and friends as Don or simply “Boy.” Don passed away on June 1, 2026, in Williams Lake, British Columbia, at the age of 78.

Born on January 29, 1948, in Kamloops, BC, Don spent his younger years in Prince George and Stone Creek. He worked throughout his life in the logging industry and as a saw filer, a career that suited his strong work ethic and practical nature.

Don loved the outdoors and spent countless hours hunting, fishing, camping, and hiking. The Kootenays held a special place in his heart and were where he felt most at home. Whether he was out in the mountains, beside a lake, or simply enjoying the beauty of British Columbia, he felt most at peace outdoors.

Anyone who knew Don knew he could fix just about anything. If something was broken, he would find a way to make it work again. He was also known for his baking—although those treats rarely lasted long enough to be shared widely, as he usually enjoyed them himself before anyone else had much of a chance. He loved telling stories from his younger days and was never short on a one-liner, quick comeback, or memorable saying.

Anyone who knew Don also knew there was a special place in his heart for his beloved dog, Molly. Their bond was undeniable, and many family members affectionately joked that Molly was the love of his life. We take comfort in imagining the two of them reunited once again.

Don will be remembered for his generous heart, his unforgettable smile, his stubborn independence, and his ability to leave people with a story worth retelling.

He leaves behind his daughters, Tanya Tinker (Bill) and Kerri Haws (Steven); his sisters, Dee Hein (Doug), Debbie Warkentine (Gary), and Peggy Weaver; his grandchildren, James, Triston, Bryce, Christian, and Lucas; and his great-grandchildren, Addilia, Raiden, Olivia, and Henry.

He was predeceased by his parents and many other family members and friends whom he loved throughout his life.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 8, from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Kaslo Legion, 403 Fifth St., Kaslo, British Columbia. Family and friends are invited to join us in sharing stories, memories, and laughter as we celebrate Don’s life.

To honour Don’s generous nature, consider sharing a kindness, lending a helping hand, or supporting a cause close to your own heart.

Though he has taken his final journey, the stories, laughter, and memories he shared will live on. When you think of Don, we hope you remember his smile, hear one of his famous one-liners in your head, and smile right back.

You may offer a message of condolence at First Memorial Funeral Services Kamloops for the Haws family.
