KAMLOOPS — Organizers of the 2026 55+ BC Games are looking for a number of specialized volunteers to step up and join the team, with the games exactly 11 weeks away.

The games are set to run Sept. 8 to 12 and organizers are looking for first aid-certified Kamloops residents who will be stationed at venues throughout the city to serve as the first line of safety for the more than 2,500 participants and visitors who are expected to come to Kamloops.

“We would like 120 trained and certified first aid volunteers to make these games safe for everyone who comes to Kamloops to compete,” said Ron McColl, the president of the Kamloops 2026 55+ BC Games Host Society.

“Kamloops has always shown up for these games and we’re counting on that community spirit again.”

McColl said shift schedules are still being finalized but the information will be confirmed in advance of the games. All volunteers will be requested to have a valid first aid certificate at the time of the event.

Recruitment is also underway for hosts, who would be tasked with ensuring all participants and visitors have a great experience while in Kamloops. Organizers are also hoping to snap up volunteer photographers who have their own gear to cover competition and ceremonies across all five days.

“Whether you have a first aid certificate, a friendly face or a camera, there is a role for you at these games,” added McColl. “We want Kamloops residents to be part of this.”

In December, organizers said they needed more than 1,200 volunteers to help stage the games in Kamloops. Volunteer recruitment began in February and more information about the opportunities that are available can be found here.

Tourism Kamloops says the 2026 55+ BC Games will welcome more than 2,500 visitors to the city, while generating an estimated $3 million in economic impact for the community. The city has hosted the 55+ BC Games twice before in 1996 and 2013.

“Kamloops notoriously shows up for [events] like this,” Chloe Pasemko, the director of promotions for the 2026 55+ BC Games, told CFJC Today in February.

“We’re obviously a largely sport-driven community. In the past, we’ve seen the volunteer community show up for us. No matter what someone is interested in… there’s something for everyone.”
