SALMON ARM, B.C. — The Independent Investigations Office of BC (IIO) is looking for witnesses to an arrest in Salmon Arm on September 2, 2025, when a woman was reportedly injured by the officer.

According to the IIO, initial reports said RCMP officers found a white Toyota Tundra in the 4100-block of Highway 97B stopped on an angle on the side of the road with its passenger side tire in the ditch shortly before midnight.

Upon stopping to check of the vehicle, police found a man behind the wheel and woman passenger inside, both of whom were arrested following an impaired driving investigation.

Police impounded the vehicle before releasing the man and woman.

The IIO said the woman contacted them on April 13, 2026, reporting she suffered injuries during the arrest.

The IIO office considers two factors when they begin and investigation: if there has been a death or serious injury that meets the threshold of serious harm defined by the Police Act; and if there is a connection between the harm and officer action/inaction.

“If both conditions are met, the investigation will continue to examine all available evidence to determine what occurred,” said the IIO.

“At the conclusion of the investigation, the chief civilian director will consider whether there are reasonable grounds to believe that an offence may have occurred.”

Any witnesses who have information on the incident are asked to contact the IIO Witness Line at 1-855-446-8477 or through their website.
