KAMLOOPS — A two-time runner-up for the Kamloops mayor’s chair says he will not take another run in 2026.

Dieter Dudy told media Wednesday (June 10) he is ruling out a run for mayor in the October 17 municipal election. However, Dudy says he is still considering a run for one of the eight councillor seats.

“After a lot of soul-searching and deliberation, I have decided to not pursue the office of mayor in the upcoming civic election,” Dudy said in his message to media. “The reasons are numerous and while I believe I still had something to offer the community, I also believe that the overall wellbeing of the community comes first.”

“That said,” he continued, “I have not completely shut the door on a council run.”

An organic farmer, Dudy served two terms on council, spanning from 2014 to 2022.

He was one of three incumbent councillors who opted to run for mayor in the 2022 election, finishing in second place with 5,650 votes to winner Reid Hamer-Jackson’s 7,298.

Dudy previously ran for mayor in 2011, finishing just 235 behind incumbent winner Peter Milobar.

To date, three candidates have declared their intentions to run for mayor of Kamloops — Hamer-Jackson, incumbent councillor Mike O’Reilly and former councillor Nelly Dever.
