Wine, beer and baseball: NorthPaws aiming to lure fans to Norbrock for six-game homestand

Kamloops is scheduled to open a six-game West Coast League (WCL) homestand on Tuesday (cheap beer alert: Molson Tuesday presented by Coors night) with the first of three games against the Port Angeles Lefties (3-6).

The NorthPaws are planning to responsibly serve fans with affordable alcohol and quality baseball, the club adamant its record of 2-7 is not indicative of its play through nine games. 

“I don’t think that’s a fair reflection,” said Evan Dugdale, who is batting .382, good for 12th in the league. “Pretty much all of our games have been pretty close, down to the last play. If we get a couple bounces and a couple calls going our way, we could flip our record around.” 

The NorthPaws return home reeling from a three-game sweep at the hands of the North Division-leading Wenatchee AppleSox (6-2). 

“We’ve had some bad luck, at times, this year,” Jepson said. “Yeah, we’re 2-7, but in eight of those games you’re leading going into the sixth inning. We’ve lost seven of those by two runs or less, three in extras. So, it’s tough to not be discouraged but, at the same time, I think we’re playing pretty good.” 

NorthPaws’ outfielder Kade Crawford is the early lead story for his team, earning WCL player of the week honours for the period ending Sunday, June 7. 

He is second in the league in RBI with 14, tied for first in home runs with three, and tied for fifth in stolen bases with seven, in nine games. 

“I honestly couldn’t ask for anything better,” Crawford said of the hot start. “I’ve just been kind of playing relaxed and it’s been working out.” 

The back half of the homestand will see Kamloops host the Walla Walla Sweets (6-3) on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. 

Dogs are invited to Norbrock on Saturday for Bark in the Park presented by Petland. 

“They’ll [fans] have a chance to win some nice treat packages, some gift cards, some giveaways, all that sort of stuff,” said Marc Ashford, the club’s marketing and operations co-ordinator. “It’s just a nice night to get out with your whole family, including the dogs.”
