Walter “Wally” David Smeaton was born January 14, 1936. He passed away at the age of 90 surrounded by his loving family in Kamloops, BC, on the morning of May 29, 2026. He was born to Gertrude “Jean” and William. He was the middle child of two brothers. Wally was predeceased by Bill, his identical twin brother and younger brother, Don.

Wally was born and raised in Kamloops, where he met the love of his life, Violet Bailey, who left this world in 2014. They were married April 20, 1957, and spent their 56 years together creating a life full of love, family, faith, and friends. Two pillars of his life were his faith and his family. Wally was a generous man and he spent his life in service to others in his community. For 35 years, he was an elementary school teacher. This was accompanied by many years of community coaching, often more than one team in a year. He was passionate about track and field and marshalled track meets on the local, provincial, and masters level well into his 80’s. He was an active member in Gideons and served on the board of his church. Wally lived an active life that included golfing weekly, travelling abroad, and spending time with family, friends, and at church each week. Wally and Violet created a life full of treasured memories and a legacy of family and generosity for his children.

Wally is survived by his eight children, David “Dave” (Carrie), Patrick “Rick” (Karen), Susan “Sue” (John), Melody “Mel” (Ken), Cory (Leanna), Cindy (Dan), Lana (Andre), and Steven “Steve” (Shelby), along with his many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was beloved by many and will be missed. Dad believed in generosity.
