KAMLOOPS — The B.C. government will give the Kamloops Film Society $250,000 to update the Paramount Theatre’s heating and cooling system.

Provincial officials said the Kamloops Film Society will replace the building’s 70-year-old failing boiler with a modern HVAC system to service the lobby, offices and the 450-seat Theatre 1.

“The upgrade will provide safe, efficient, and reliable heating and cooling for this downtown cultural venue. Replacing the original boiler and failed cooling system will ensure year‑round operation, improve comfort for staff, volunteers, and patrons, and enhance the facility’s energy efficiency and long‑term sustainability,” said a statement from the B.C. government.

The Kamloops Film Society’s grant is part of nearly $6.4 million in funding from the province’s Community Gaming Grants, which was split between 50 non-profit organizations around British Columbia.

“B.C.’s non-profit organizations provide important services and programs for British Columbians throughout the province, and we know how much of a difference that makes in their daily lives,” said Anne Kang, Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sport.

“Through these Community Gaming Grants, we are proud to support these organizations to provide important services to residents that enhance quality of life, address specific needs and help our communities thrive.”
