Mel Gibson has unveiled the first look at The Resurrection Of The Christ while announcing release delays for his long-awaited follow-up to The Passion Of The Christ. The two-part biblical epic wrapped filming after 134 days across six Italian locations including Rome, Matera, and Bari. Part One moves from March 26 to May 6, 2027, while Part Two shifts from May 2027 to May 25, 2028. Gibson called the project “a mission I’ve carried for over 20 years to tell what I believe is the most important story in human history.” The sequel focuses on Jesus Christ’s resurrection, starring Jaakko Ohtonen and Mariela Garriga replacing Jim Caviezel and Monica Bellucci. Gibson previously described the scripts as an “acid trip.” The original 2004 film earned $610 million worldwide on a $30 million budget and held the domestic R-rated box office record until Deadpool & Wolverine surpassed it.
