Police say visitor to downtown Kamloops RCMP detachment wound up evading officers in stolen vehicle
KAMLOOPS — RCMP have arrested a man who they say arrived for a visit at the downtown Kamloops detachment last week driving a stolen vehicle.
In a news release issued Thursday (May 21), police say the man came into the detachment on an unrelated, non-criminal matter just after 4:00 p.m. last Friday.
When he left the building, police saw the man got into a white Honda CR-V that allegedly had a ‘regulatory infraction’. When officers tried to pull him over, they say he evaded them, fleeing through a residential area. Because of the safety threat to the public, police decided against pursuing.
Two days later, the detachment’s Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) tracked the vehicle down near the man’s home. Police say the CR-V had been reported stolen on May 2.
