Bette Midler To Voice Fairy Godmother In Netflix’s Animated ‘Steps’

Bette Midler will voice the fairy godmother in Netflix’s upcoming animated film Steps, joining Amanda Seyfried as Cinderella. Ali Wong and Stephanie Hsu complete the cast as evil stepsisters Lilith and Margot. Midler described her character as having “good intentions, but she’s a little bit of a bumbler and she’s a little bit of a schemer.” The film reimagines the classic tale, following stepsister Lilith who accidentally turns Margot into a frog after stealing a magic wand at the Royal Ball. Lilith must team up with Cinderella and a troll to save the kingdom. Directors Alyce Tzue and John Ripa crafted the story about sisters who discover they’re “more alike than different.” Tzue said the film targets those who “felt like they didn’t belong” and shows “how a single act of kindness can change everything.” The animated feature releases later this year.
