KAMLOOPS — A man wanted on a Canada-wide warrant was arrested in Kamloops earlier this week.

A Kamloops Mountie saw 38-year-old Kurtis Justin Billy driving a stolen pickup truck in the Sahali neighbourhood on Tuesday (May 12), according to an update provided by the BC RCMP Thursday.

RCMP say officers tried to arrest the man but say he initially evaded police riding a bicycle. Billy was eventually spotted again, but police say he ran away.

Police say Billy stole a children’s bike during the process but was eventually found by officers and safely arrested.

“Despite multiple attempts to evade police, our officers remained persistent and focused on ensuring this individual was safely taken into custody,” Kamloops RCMP Supt. Jeff Pelley states.

According to BC RCMP, Billy had been seen multiple times in Kamloops in recent months. Police add he was returned to the Kamloops Regional Correctional Centre and remains detained ahead of a court appearance to address his outstanding charges.

Kamloops RCMP are also working on forwarding additional charges against Billy.

Police say no one was injured during the arrest and pursuit. The stolen pickup truck and bicycle have since been recovered.

A specific timeline of when the events transpired was not provided.

Kamloops RCMP put a plea out to the public for help finding Billy on April 13 as he was wanted for allegedly failing to comply with his curfew.
