Britney Spears Pleads Guilty To DUI, Avoids Jail Time
Britney Spears entered a guilty plea to a misdemeanor driving under the influence charge during Monday’s arraignment, successfully avoiding incarceration. The pop star pleaded guilty to a reduced “wet reckless” charge, which places her on 12-month probation and requires completion of a DUI education program. She qualified for the plea deal due to having no prior DUI history, no accident or injuries, and a low blood alcohol level. Prosecutors filed charges last week but didn’t specify which substance was involved. Spears was arrested March 4 around 9:30 p.m. in Ventura County by California Highway Patrol and booked at 3 a.m. the following day. Her representative called it “an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable,” stating Spears would “take the right steps and comply with the law.” Spears voluntarily entered a treatment facility but departed just days before her court appearance.
