Shakira Draws 2 Million Fans To Free Copacabana Beach Concert
Shakira performed for an estimated 2 million people at a free concert on Rio de Janeiro’s Copacabana Beach on Saturday night. The nearly 30-song set featured hits including “Hips Don’t Lie,” “She Wolf,” and “Waka Waka,” with special guest appearances by Brazilian artists Anitta, Maria Bethania, and Caetano Veloso. “I arrived here when I was 18 years old, dreaming about singing for you,” Shakira told the massive crowd. “And now look at this. Life is magical.” The performance continues a trend of major female artists playing free Copacabana shows, following Madonna in 2024 and Lady Gaga in 2025, whose concert drew a record 2.5 million attendees. Despite being free admission, local government officials estimate Shakira’s concert will generate approximately $150 million in tourism revenue for Rio de Janeiro.
