SALMON ARM — A man was left hospitalized after he was struck by a vehicle driven by his house sitter.

Salmon Arm RCMP said they were called to the hospital on April 5 when a staff member reported that a patient had been struck by a vehicle.

An officer spoke to the victim and learned that he was out of the country for two months and had house sitters at his residence.

Police say the man found that his property was damaged when he returned, and the house sitters had not left as planned.

The victim said the house sitters returned to the property unannounced and began yelling at him from a vehicle as he stood about three metres away, in front of it.

According to police officials, the driver then “gunned it” and drove the vehicle into the victim, making no attempt to stop.

“The victim bounced off the vehicle into the air and landed on his head, and the vehicle drove away,” said Salmon Arm RCMP.

“The victim was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries by their partner.”

Police located and arrested the driver on April 7.

The Court approved multiple charges against 47-year-old Clinton Wells.

Salmon Arm RCMP said Wells is facing one count of assault, one count of uttering threat, one count of dangerous operation of a conveyance, and one count of failing to stop after accident resulting in bodily harm.

Wells was denied bail and was scheduled to appear in court on April 30.
